Handing a group to someone else

When you step down, or hand over to your successor, the group can go with you rather than being stuck to your account. On the Members page, the owner gets a Transfer ownership section: pick someone from the group, type the group's name to confirm, and they become the owner while you become a Leader. You keep full access to everything except billing and any future transfer, which become theirs. It's also in Hall Manager and Quartermaster now, and it hands over the whole group in one go — ownership isn't per-app.

Two things worth knowing. You can't undo it yourself — only the new owner can hand it back.

And the one that costs money if you miss it: the Direct Debit doesn't move with ownership. It belongs to whoever set it up, and it keeps renewing from their bank account for as long as it exists. If you set it up and then hand the group over, you will still be paying next year unless you cancel it — so the handover isn't really finished until the new owner has set up their own and the old one is cancelled.

How the new owner takes it over. On the group's Billing panel they'll see whose Direct Debit is currently funding it, and a Take over payment button. That sets up their own Direct Debit and cancels the previous one. Nothing is collected at the time: their payments start on the group's existing renewal date, when the year already paid for runs out. Once they've done that, the handover is complete and the previous owner stops paying.

We won't let you delete your account while a Direct Debit of yours is still paying for a group you've handed over, since that would leave it collecting with no account left to manage it from.

You can only hand a group to someone already in its leader team, so invite your successor and let them accept first. That's deliberate: a mistyped email address would otherwise give the group away with no way back.
